What do you think of Ann or Anne for a girl ? I though it was oh so boring for a long long time but now I'm really starting to like it. It was overused a couple of decades ago and until recently also overused as a middle name (until replaced by Rose).
Now I'm rediscovering Ann/Anne. I think it's so simple and just lovely. What do you think ? Too plain and boring or kind of refreshing ?
And which spelling do you prefer. I prefer Ann. I like Anne of Grenn Gables (who had the beautiful middle name of Cordelia) but I think Ann looks better. She wouldn't be Annie, though.

I still think its boring, its mine and Hayley's middle name (is also my nanna's middle name too) Grant suggested for Hayley.
I prefer Annelise with the nn Anne or Annie.
Anne looks better than Ann. Ann looks incomplete with the e.
I have known quite a few people with the middle name of Anne or Anne and only one Anne as a fn.

This is very odd. My real name and my online moniker are both up for discussion...
Anyhow, I'm an Anne. The first time I met another Anne my age was at a summer camp, aged 14. The second time, I was in 3rd year university. Despite the "common" label, it's really not- I've now met a total of three under the age of 50 in all of my 22 years. I don't think it'll be popular in english anytime soon- too simple, and too tied to the sweet, fanciful and utterly unfashionable redhead.
And it can be bloody awkward at times- most people don't pronounce the "d" of "and" and A LOT of people use it as a device in speech, when linking or emphasizing a point. Which causes me to jerk up in startlement- or completely ignore someone calling my name.

I love Anne, that spelling only. It looks sophisticated and classy and just much more complete. I hate the look of Ann.
I don't think that Anne will be popular like Emily and Ava for a long, long time. It's very far away from current trends.
Anne is way overused as a middle name still. I know tons of people of all ages with the middle name Anne or Ann.

As an Ann . . .
My real name is Ann (Marie). I've always liked it, even when there were four of us in a class! I like its simplicity and timeless quality.
That said, I've always prefered the Anne spelling. It looks so much more sophisticated. I'd look for a more adventurous mn like:
Anne Rosamund, Anne Genevieve, or Anne Magdalene.

I think Anne is lovely. As a first name, I don't find Anne boring because you never hear it nowadays. I dislike Ann, however, it has a completely different feeling for me and it looks unfinished. Anne is much more classic.
I can't see Anne making it into the top 100 any time soon (which is good).

I love Anne, but really dislike the spelling Ann. I feel the opposite as you, I think Anne looks better/prettier -- much, much more so.
(ETA... As Anne of Green Gables herself said about the spelling: "Oh, it makes such a difference. It looks so much nicer. When you hear a name pronounced can't you always see it in your mind, just as if it was printed out? I can; and A-n-n looks dreadful, but A-n-n-e looks so much more distinguished." I agree wholeheartedly! ;) )

I'm torn. At first instant, I prefered Ann...but then Anne started to seem appealing as well. But I'll go with Ann, I guess. And I don't like Annie much either, I would never stand to use it.
I think that anything could make a comeback, so I wouldn't rule Ann or Anne out altogether. Especially since "old-fashioned" names are coming back in style, even though Ann/Anne is simpler. I would go with Anne coming back over Ann because Ann does seem kind of plain to many people and Anne has more of an old-fashioned charm.

Oh, both Ann and Anne are lovely names, as long as they aren't used as middle names. I like Anne also pronounced my "native" way - AHN-ne.

I love Mary as well. I used to love Margaret (especially the meaning) but met a hmmmm not so nice person named Margaret so I just don't want to use it because every time I hear the name I think of her so I think I prefer Pearl.

It is very lovely, not boring or plain at all. I like it with an 'E', but Ann is a family name, the middle name of my mother. I really don't see Ann/e making much of a comeback. However, I fully admit that I could be surprised. :)
Cordelia, however, wasn't Anne's real middle name. It was just a fanciful name thought up for herself. Diana later named her daughter Anne Cordelia in honour of her friend. That is a beautiful combo, however. It was from the Anne books that I grew to love the nickname Nan.
I don't think Ann/e gets much attention as a middle name today. I have one cousin, Jessica Ann, and outside of her and my mother, I don't know anyone the that middle name.
I love the combo Anne Charlotte.

Wow I didn't even know that. They don't explain it in the German version so I thought Cordelia actually was her middle name and she just wanted to go by it. Or maybe I just forgot. I should read the book again.

I like Anne. I do not think it's overused. It's classic. I can see it making a come back.
