[Opinions] Opinions on Jane (m)
What do you think of the name Jane? Is it too plain in the age of all these "cre8iv" spellings, or is it refreshing? I used to think it was too dull to be used as a first name, but now I think it sounds very refined among all the Madisons and Makaylas. Also, what middle names work well with it? I like Jane Louisa. Thanks.~Sadie

I love Jane. I like that it now stands out from all the other names when it used to be very dull.

I don't like McKayla any more than the next BtN regular ... But I don't see the need to revert to Jane! There are names just as classic, but *interesting* to boot. Estella, Adah, Holly, Helena, Ruby, Tatiana ... Well, there are a million examples. 'Classic' is great - it does not have to mean 'chronically tired'. Ann, Jane, Joan, John, Mary etc. will never hold any charm for me, sorry ...I think Louisa is beautiful, and fits into the 'classic but still interesting' category :-)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor"Yeehaw!" is not a foreign policy!

Jane does sound refreshing amongst the Madisons and MaKaylas. However, I like it best for a middle name.

I think it's lovely. It's sophisticated and simple. It would be on my list of first names if it weren't my Grandmother's name and if the nn Janie weren't too close to my own name.Jane Louisa is very nice.

Eh. Jane is my middle name. It's better than Madison, Makayla, etc, but I personally find it too dull. I love Joan, though- even though it's no longer or less common, it seems to have more spice.

I worded the part about Madisons and Makaylas kind of funny... what I mean is that the name stands out nicely against all the people named Madison and Makayla nowadays, not that I like them as a sibset.~Sadie

I know you weren't thinking of a sibset. I just thought you were pointing out how in a class of trendy names it would stand out. I was pointing out that there are names similar to Jane in style that are popular, the popular names aren't just Madison, Makayla.

Jane Aida (ah-EE-dah, not AY-dah) used to be one of my favourite names.I think Jane works perfectly well in the modern day. Jane itself is nice and professional (especially in comparison to Maddysin!), and the nickname Janey is a bit edgy-sounding--at least, it is to me. When I think of Janey, the song "Janey's Got a Gun" and Jane Lane of Daria (whose brother called her Janey) come to mind. It's really a fantabulous name overall. I think that the best middle names would be the three syllable or more, ends-in-a-vowel sort. Jane Louisa, Jane Aida, Jane Ramona, Jane Calliope, Jane Kalila, Jane Penelope...Array

I don't think any name is dull, plain, or boring. Each name has its own uniqueness about it, making it interesting in some way. I'm probably in the minority with this way of thinking, though.Jane is such a wonderful name. It's sweet, simple, classy, and it will suit any age. I happen to think Louisa Jane flows better, but I think Jane Louise is nice.
