[Opinions] Rebecca
I disliked this name all my life. Especially its nicknames Becky, Becca and Bec. Lately I'm starting to like it. It's out of the top 100 (and I think it will continue to lose popularity) so I can consider it in a few years when I have children. So what do you think ? Will Rebecca continue to fall on the popularity chart ? Do you think people would automatically nickname her Becky, Becca or Bec ? I don't want to use a nickname for it. Do youl like alternate spellings Rebekka, Rebekah or Rebecka ? What do you think of Estella and Rebecca for sisters ? How about Tabitha and Rebecca ? Do you know many people named Rebecca ? Do they go by their full name or by a nickname ? Do you know any newborn babies with the name ? How old are Rebeccas you know ? What kind of person would have the name ?

I like Rebecca. I think it will still be around, but it won't be back around the top again. Rebekah is the original biblical spelling. I think Estella and Rebecca are good for sisters. Most Rebecca's I know are in their 20's or 30's. I think Rebecca is still totally acceptable to use. "Rebecca Lynn" was one of my favorite songs growing up. Most people will probably call her Becca or Becky though.

I've disliked Rebecca all my life as well, and that hasn't changed. I don't think any of the nns are particularly nice sounding as well. The only nn I kinda like for it is Bex (we had a poster with that nn for it), or maybe Rivka. If you must, then Rebecca is the best option. I think both Estella and Tabitha fit with it, Tabitha a bit better than Estella, but I dislike both of those names as well...

I recently have realized I love Rebecca too. It's quite a versitile name. I have met the preppy Rebecca who goes by Becky, the crazy, fun-loving Rebecca who goes by Becca, and the independent artist Rebecca who will not stand to have it shortened besides with the very occasional Becca. No one dares call her Becky, and it wouldn't feel right anyway. She couldn't look further from one. So that may answer your question, nicknames seem much less likely to develop if they don't seem to fit the person's personality. So if your daughter's a Becky, then she may be called one and not disapprove of it, if she's not, it'll be apparent. I had a friend who never wanted to be called anything besides Elizabeth. It was actually sort of annoying how picky she was about it, but people tried their best to always call her by her full name, even though it was a bit of an adjustment, because she was adament about it.Me, I would consider this name for a daughter, as I think of how well it would fit myself. I would like to use it when the name is falling off the charts. I would use her full name and perhaps Bex or Becca occasionally. Rebecca is beautiful but not prissy and attention-hogging name. It's for a girl who's beauty can shine through without all that. She might hate her name when she's young -- think she's too normal, but by the time she gets to highschool, she'll learn to embrace the name as she learns to love herself regardless of the fact that she might not have been considered cool in her childhood. This is the story of so many regular people. Sometimes it's best to go with a name that has timeless beauty, so while one child is a trendy Madison or McKenzie, another chld will realize her beauty later on, which is not dependent on conforming to the style of the time.

I prefer Rebekah, the only nn I like is Becka. I know 2 Rebekahs they go by Bec or Becka. Every single Rebekah/Rebecca I have ever met (about 4 or 5 of them) have been really bossy.

Rebecca is a pretty name. In terms of spelling, I like Rebecca and Rebekah the best. As for sister names, I think that Estella and Tabitha both work with Rebecca.I've known quite a few Rebeccas, but that's because it was common in the 80s. Basically all of the Rebeccas I know are in their early 20s. I can't say that I know any little girls named Rebecca. It's definitely been dropping off in popularity over the years. There was a Rebecca I went to school with who I believe went by Rebecca all of the time. I don't remember hearing anyone call her Becca or Becky. While there is no way to guarantee that no one will ever call her Becca, Becky, and Beck, she can always correct them and say that that she prefers to be called Rebecca. In schools and camps, it seems like usually people call a person by his or her full name unless the person says that he or she prefers to go by a nickname, so it probably won't be that big of a deal.

I think Rebecca isn't likely to shoot to the top of the charts soon. I kind of see it holding steady or declining a bit.I've always liked this name myself.I know three Rebeccas personally and NONE go by Becky, Becca, etc. One is Bex (which I'm not a big fan of), one is Reba (which I do like), and one is always just Rebecca.

The problem I have with this name is that it doesn't sound very nice in my native language, otherwise it's a lovely name. As variants go, I adore Rivka.
Rebecca's great with Estella, but I don't like Tabitha.
