Don't use it because of Homer Simpson.

I don't like the name Homer at the best of times, so I don't really get it's appeal. I do think most people will think of The Simpsons, yes. The show is extremely popular and that character is the most known Homer around really.

I think of Homer Simpson when I hear it, but I really wish I didn't! I say use it, because that name is perfectly fine and it's too bad it has such an awful namesake. the only problem would be if you were an avid watcher of the show.

as for Whitney, I think it's just fine on a boy. I prefer it for a boy actually, and I knew a boy with the name.

I always think of Homer from Tomorrow When The War Began by John Marsden. He was my favourite character.

I love this name! DH vetoed it and I was crushed. This name is amazing. If you get to use it, do it for those of us who can't.

I would think about a fat, donute eating person saying "doh" all the time. I like the name Bart but wouldn't use it because of The Simpsons also.

Homer is a bad idea because of the Simpsons. It would have been a nice name.

Yup, I think of the Simpsons. I dont' think it'd be mean, but I dislike the name. Primarily it makes me think of Homeros and how much I dislike having the -os ending chopped off.

I think of the Simpsons as negative yet I also think of one of my fave movies Cider House Rules.

Yes, I think of Homer Simpson when I hear the name. In addition to being forever linked with a very popular cartoon character, it also sounds a bit dated and hillbilly. I don't think its usable...yet.

Whitney is a girls' name only.

I think of the author of Iliad and the Odessy, or Cider House Rules (which I've never actually read or seen, but do have some sentimental memories attached to) when I hear Homer, but I suspect most people will think of The Simpsons, so it would be a kinda hard name to have.
