[Opinions] Shaylie?
Okay. So in a recent post I mentioned a possible character named Shaylie. I'm assuming it comes from Shayla, which trails back through Sheila-Sile-Cecilia, which means "blind." So I'm definitely going to use this name, especially because it sounds like the reverse of Ashley so I might use symbolism there... it's interesting. I only took a guess at its spelling, though. My sis has a friend named Shaylie who just moved in next door, but I've no idea how it's spelt. WDYTO this name, have you ever known anyone with this name, and how did they spell it?Thanks,

editedI don't like it. It sounds like your mispronouncing Shelly or something. It's trendy as well. I prefer Ashlie and Sheila as someone suggested even though I prefer Ashley over Ashlie. If you want it to have the same letters as Ashley go for Shaley. It looks better than Shaylie, in my opinion.

Haha Shaley. Nice anagram. I thought about that ... I'll keep it in mind.
Yeah. I definitely like Ashley way better. But ... IDK, it took me a while to get used to Shaylie too, but now it's just grown on me or something LOL.

I love this name, but I like it better spelled, Shaylee or Shailee.

That's what beaches can be, isn't it?Shaly :) (as in made of shale).Honestly, that's what I thought. Then, I thought it's almost the ultimate trendy name - the 'sh' sound is there, the 'ay' sound is there, it ends in '-lee'. It could only be topped by Shaylyn (actually, a lie, McShaylynson). I find it very trendy and far from my style. It's just a collection of pretty sounds to go with other -aylee/-ayla names. I'm inclined to dislike it but not hate it. It's too inoffensive to hate. It's just a candyfloss name, no substance. As for spelling it, it's existance as a trendy sound combination means it's open to anything (especially as rules of pronunciation are often ignored over so-called 'aesthetics' though often the ugliest name in existance is created. See below for examples). Thus:
Shaylie
Shaylee
Shayley
Shayly
Shaylea
Shaylye
Shayleigh
Shayli
Shayliee
Shalie
Shalee
Shaley
Shaly
Shalea
Shalye
Shaleigh
Shali
Shaliee
Shaelie
Shaelee
Shaeley
Shaely
Shaelea
Shaelye
Shaeleigh

Shaighlie
Shaighlee
Shaighley
Shaighly
Shaighlea
Shaighlye
Shaighleigh
Shaighli
ShaighlieeThe world is your very trendy oyster when it comes to spelling such names. However, I really would just use either Shaylie, Shaylee or Shayley to make things simpler.

Well i love this name :) A LOT!! lol
I spell it Shaylee but thats just mee and how i spell it. I really think that you can spell it however you like.
And im pretty sure it came from Shayla too. I added that name and wrote "Shaylee" in the box.
I think i would use it as a middlename though because even though i love it i admit it is pretty trendy.
It would be lovely as a first name though too.Other ways i concider spelling it was...
Shaeleigh
Shaelee
Shayleigh
Shaely
ShayleaThe list goes on for ever lol.

I have a friend named Shaylee. She's 16. Her middle name is Ann or Anne.I think it's trendy and just a combination of random sounds, honestly. It's just... bleh. Sheila would be better, I think. And if you changed the spelling of Ashley to Ashlie (not that I'd like to see that happen on a real person,) Sheila and Ashlie have all of the same letters, which could be a connection you may be looking for.

It sounds very trendy, and using it on a character might be a mistake. Would the name hold well through time? I don't think it would. If it's for a personal writing for yourself, no problem. But if you're wanting to get this published at some point, Shaylie isn't the best choice. My personal opinion is less nice. I'm getting really sad that people are using Shay- as a prefix for trendy names... It's devaluing my own name, which is not trendy at all. And I like it that way. You may have picked it up somewhere else, but to me it sounds like a modern mangling of other names. Shaylie might have come from Shayla (which is quite trendy in itself), but I'm willing to bet it's actually just Shay + popular suffix -lie.
