[Opinions] Niko /Nico
I don't like nicknames as full names, but I rather like Niko (or Nico) on its own. Niko at least is a name in its own right, I have a Finnish friend whose it is his full name.
Do you think it works by itself or does it need a long form necessarily? Which spelling is better?

I like Nico best. My husband actually uses that as my nickname. So I like it. Though it is definitely a masculine name.

Unfortunately, I like Nico too much on a girl to use it for a boy...I know, it's terrible but it's all due to the Velvet Underground's Nico! I suppose Niko for a boy then. Either way, it's an interesting nickname for Nicholas!

I think it works. My standards are etymological and Nico/Niko simply means "Victory." It also works in real life fine I'm betting.I way way way prefer Nico because I think it looks soooooo much better but there you are.

YesI know a guy named Nico (prefer this spelling). The first time I heard it, I thought it sounded really strange, but I was 8 and I thought he said his name was Meeko, lol. But I really don't see a problem with using Nico / Niko as a full name.

I love Niko. It is probably one of my favorite nicknames. I generally prefer it spelled Niko, but I don't mind Nico. I know it is used as a full name in Finnish. I don't think it necessarily requires a full name.

I love Nico. I had it on my PNL for a future son, but my bf vetoed it. He thinks it sounds stupid.

is my preferred form. I like Niko on its own just as you do, despite the fact that, like you, I don't like nn's given as full fn's. I think Niko's very sexy, and I do think it works on its own, though I also like it very much as a nn for Nikolai.I even happen to have handy a few of my favorite Niko combos =D :Niko Aleksei
Niko Ezekiel
Niko Keane
Niko Levi
Niko Locksley
Niko Logan
Niko Phoenix
Niko Reed
Niko Roland
Niko Roman
Niko Stone

Niko / Nico are forms of Nicholas. Since they are not technically a nickname, but rather the name a culture uses instead of Nicholas, I see it as standing on it's own. Whether or not I like it, I'm unsure. I'll say I'm neutral. As far as which spelling, I'd go by which culture I'd like to honor more. Finnish (Niko) or Italian/Dutch (Nico). If a name I like is from a country of my origin, I like it even more. Since I have no family ties, I'd say my favorite goalie in college (hockey) was Finnish. Not to mention I am bias on liking K's instead of C (my name is Kristina, not Christina).
