I've met one person with this name, back at school. He had a very boring surname but everyone in the school knew him by his first name only, because it's so unusual and he was quite a character.I like it.

Did he go by a nickname?

I like it, it's on my list. As is the related Sorley but I prefer Somerled. I first heard of it when I was studying medieval Scottish history in first year of university.

No, it's not just you. I've never heard this name before, but I too think it's awesome. I worry that most people won't know how to prn it or won't even recognize it as being a name.

I can see the appeal. I think it's definitely a name that could grow on me...it is kind of cool :)

It's sort of cool, but it seems too much like a surname to me. Probably because of Somerset. Come to think of it, I'd actually like Somerset a lot more than Somerled.

Lol, sorry, I can't read Somerset without hearing it in the regional accent (think Hagrid in the Harry Potter films).

Hahaha, I guess I didn't think of that, since that problem doesn't really arise much in the US.
