I know this doesn't really answer your questions about the names' origins and meanings, but beyond your concerns, my big concern with Kaida or Kaeda are the pronunciation issues. How would you pronunce it?
And I must admit that I'm a little confused that the subject line is Kaida, but in the body of your message you alternate between spelling it Kaeda and Kaida. If you can't spell it consistently, how can you reasonably expect others to spell it right?
I think it is wonderful that you want to honor your friend. If you don't like Kyla, maybe use it as a middle name.
