Help[Opinions] Merit vs. Merrit

I haven't ever really thought of it as a male name, since I was introduced to as a female one. I think it's pretty cool, actually. I have a few concerns, mostly due to having an unusual word name myself. Still, though, Merit isn't as used as Haven is and as long as he stays out of the boy scouts (Merit! You earned a merit badge!) I can't see it having as much teasing potential as my name does. (I currently have a closetful of t-shrits from places like Hoagie Haven, Hamburger Haven, White Haven....people always think they're being so clever!)
