[Opinions] Georgiana
How do you prenounce Georgiana?Last night, I went to see The Duchess, Keira Knightley's characters name was Georgiana and they prenounced it George-Jane-uh. I'd always thought it was prenounced more like Georgina or like George-ahn-a. What are you opinions on Georgiana? Also, in the film Georgiana named two of her daughters Harryo and Eliza, wdyt?

I say it like a cross between George-anna and Georgie-Anna. I think Georgie-awwhwhhhhhh-na is hopelessly pretentious.

I say george-AHN-ah. That's about as close as I can describe it I think! I really like the name actually, it's very cute. As for Harryo and Eliza, well Eliza I love, but Harryo is terrible!

JORJ-ee-AH-nahAnd it's the only George- name and pronunciation that I care for. In Pride and Prejudice (the A&E version, don't remember the Keira Knightly version), they pronounced Mr. Darcy's sister, Georgiana, in this way. I think it's the prettiest.

Ditto.

I pronounce it jor-jee-AHN-a. I also know a little girl with this name that goes by Georgie. Everyone always comments on how beautiful a name Georgiana is.

jor-JANE-ah or jor-JAH-na. i like it better than georgina and just as much as georgia. pretty!

I pronounce it jor-jee-ah-nuh (ah = the 'a' in father).I love the name...although I do prefer Georgina (which I pronounce jor-jee-nuh).I also like Eliza.

jor-JAY-nuh makes no sense given the spelling, and doesn't tally with other historical fiction works I've seen where the name has been used. I wonder what research led them to that pronunciation?I love Georgiana, but only pronounced jor-jee-AH-nuh.

You might find this IMDb thread helpful: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0864761/board/nest/118215643Apparently the Cavendish family spoke with a "Devonshire drawl" which pronounced the name Georgiana differently.

i read somewhere that jor-JAY-nah is the original pronunciation. it doesn't make that much sense but i think it's true and i like that pronunciation best. many pronunciations don't make sense. just think about nevaeh as nuh-VAY-ah eeeekk

I say George-ee-ann-a, the ann syllable sounding just like the name Ann. I don't like any feminine forms of George, nor do I like George itself.

I thought it was jor-JAH-na too for awhile, and I wasn't that fond of it. But once I learned it was jor-JAY-na, I liked it a lot. It sounds so pretty.Harryo? Her daughters are Harriet and Eliza. I love Harriet, and Eliza is alright.I really want to see that movie. It comes out here tomorrow. I'll probably end up having to see it on DVD though... kind of hard to movie-go with a four month old who won't take a bottle. :)

In the film 'Harriet' is called Harryo, it even comes up on the screen along with Charlotte and Little G. :)I didn't think I'd like the film, but it was good :)

Huh. Maybe it was her nickname? Kind of interesting, but I don't really like it.Good to know! Maybe we'll go to the first show of the day in like two weeks after everyone has already seen it. :)

I love this name, pronounced Georgie-anna. There's a little girl at my daughters daughter with the name (and her sister is Emmeline, I love it). Were the people in the movies speaking with accents maybe?

Georgiana and Emmeline are gorgeous together!
I thought that it was to do with accents at first, but they had no real distinct accents and the mother was definately saying Jor-Jane-Ah.
I like it pronounced Georgi-Ah-na too :)

It's a pretty name, but I am tiring of the *ana* namesHarryo is not attractive and Eliza is nice.
