[Opinions] Gertrude
WDYT of Gertrude nn Trudy? Will the name make a "come back" condering that the "older" names are making a reappeance?

I love love love Gertrude. It's one of my favourite names. So strong and heavy and pretty. I agree with Tippins that it's an extremely sexy name.My name-dream family right now is two girls named Gertrude and Alwilda, but I am slightly worried they'd hate me forever. It's going to take a long time to come back, but I think after a while, heavy Germanic names and consonant clusters will be in again, and Gertrude will be somewhere on the charts.

I think this is one of the ugliest names ever, sorry! Don't see it coming back.:)

I actually think it's the 'trude' that makes me dislike Gertrude as a whole, so Trudy is definitely out as a nn for me. I do find Gertie really sweet though. I think if I get a dog I'll call her Gertie. But not Gertrude.

I think of Gertrude Stein right awayWhich is both negative and positive for me. As for it coming back: I'm not sure. I agree with Tippins - Trudy will come back first. I still remember when I thought Amelia was such an old lady name and so ugly...now it's cute. Still, though - Gertrude and Bertha might forever remain out. We'll have to see. I wouldn't use it personally but I wouldn't mind seeing it.

I don't know about Gertrude. I wouldn't use it. My mum (Trudy) is very thankful her parents called her Trudene rather than Gertrude or Waltrude.

I really dislike Gertrude. I do not think it will make a comeback. I know a Trudi and a Trudy and they are not nicknames for Gertrude. If I wanted to use the name Trudy I would also use it as the given name and not a nn for Gertrude.

Normally I like strong feminine names, but Gertrude is too manly even for me. Trudy is also dated and unattractive. If you like Gertrude, consider using Tru or Getty as nns.I doubt Gertrude is ever coming back. It's one of those old Germanic names, like Bertha, that have no appeal for younger generations.

I don't get the appeal.Gertrude sounds so cold and harsh. Trudy is an okay NN, but I can't help but think of Trudy Weigel from "Reno 911!"I give it a 5.

I'm sorry, but I don't care for it. It just sounds so harsh to me from beginning to end.

I don't think Gertrude will make a huge comeback like Violet or Emma...it is more harsh sounding. It definitely does remind me of an old lady. Trudy is a very cute nn though...if you like it go for it. I personally don't mind it so much, but wouldn't use it... just so the nn isn't Gert. No I think Gertrude is in there with Bertha, Agatha, Helga, Agnes, Henrietta, Bessie, Olga, Mabel...not likely to make a comeback any time soon...Heidi

Sure, although not a very big comeback because I agree, the guttural sound at the start is unfashionable. I think Trudy could be fashionable. I might like Gertrude, if it were more commonly pronounced GAIR-trood instead of GUR-trood.

I'm not sure it will make a comeback, it's very harsh-sounding. I don't think for instance, Ethel will make a comeback either.I really dislike Trudy. It makes me think of a fat person, just as Bessie does.

I love it

I can't see Gertrude coming back. I think it's terribly unattractive, and I think that the vast majority of the general population thinks the same thing, and I don't think that will change. Trudy is an improvement upon Gertrude itself, but I don't personally like that, either. I really dislike the OO sound in it. That's also why I hate Jude and Judith.

I don't see it coming back. The Ger sound at the beginning is too harsh.

I agree about the Ger...I think most of what I consider VERY German names won't make a comeback, at least not where I live. Adelbert, Ludwig, Brunhilda, and Gertrude amongst them.

I love it so much. I think Trudy on its own will come back faster than Gertrude though. Gertrude's got none of the big spacious vowel sounds that are "in" lately, and it's got consonant clusters that are def. out. Umm but it probably will come back in maybe 30-40 years, when people get tired of open names like Olivia and Ava and turn to harder phonetics.Gertrude I have to admit I would be kind of reluctant to actually use because I find it so sexy. Same with Olga.

Agree all the way. Especially the comment about Gertrude and Olga.

LOL...I so cannot see Gertrude or Olga as sexy. I'm trying to imagine two porn stars with those names. Just a differing opinion.

I think that Tippins means a different sort of sexy like a classy femme fatale, right Tippins? (are p0rn starts really sexy anyway?)

It's weird. I am straight, like 98% straight at least, but every few months or so I meet a girl/woman/female who is so shockingly beautiful and sexy that I get nervous around her. It is not attraction, it is just "Wow, this chick is really sexy." Gertrude and Olga are names like that, that make my heart quicken a little. There is something just Feminine Sexual about them.

I can certainly recognize the fact that another woman is beautiful or pretty, just not sexy. And I've never met a woman in real life that was so shockingly beautiful that I get nervous around her. The only women I've ever considered really beautiful, not just pretty, are actresses or models I've only seen pictures of. I can appreciate a beautiful face, but I just cannot find anything the least bit sexual about another woman. I just can't think of one as sexy. My guy friend is the same way, I guess. Don't bother ever asking him if he thinks another man is good-looking or attractive. He always says the same thing: "I've never seen a pretty man." I think most men are that way, actually, and that LuzDeTuVida's friend is the exception.

:):)Definitely! Women, just like men, gaze at women as well. It's an image and we're either attracted or not attracted to it. It's no so much do with sexual orientation. You're awesome for saying that!As my heterosexual friend once said, "Sometimes when I see a beautiful woman I always have to glance back at her and then I think about her!"My undergrad's in film so I know how the media and life is constructed around visual pleasure! :P

I agree one hundred percent...I even have a guy friend who admits that he experiences this with guys and he always thinks that he's gay because of it, but he's definitely not. I'm a very visual person and I simply can just really appreciate the human form, whether male or female. I'm straight, but I think women are beautiful, and sometimes sexy, and I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of. I think it's more about a passion for the human body and for all things visual. Names I sometimes consider too...sexed up to use as first names in my mind are Tanith (it means serpant lady) which my guy friend said was really sexy too and definitely Vered. It means Rose and has the word "red" right in it, which I would have used as a nickname. Red is ridiculously stimulating in my mind. I also see Azeneth on a girl that's ridiculously beautiful beyond belief, and I think that some fairly common names would seem newly beautiful if they were on the right girl. Eve would be seductive on a raw, natural beauty, bringing to mind the Eve in Genesis. Helen on a calm, elegant beauty would bring alive Helen of Troy, which would be heavenly. I'm melting just thinking about all these sexy names! = ]

As a straight woman, I couldn't give an opinion on whether or not female porn stars are sexy. I've never seen a sexy woman in my life. But men seem to think they are, if only in a blatant manner.Olga...*maybe* sexy in a subtle femme fatale sort of way. Gertrude, I still can't see.

Thanks! Thanks really interesting about the sexiness. I didn't think of that however now I agree.
