[Opinions] Meara
I was wondering what you all thought of this name? Anyone ever heard it before? How would you pronounce it?
It's in a book I'm reading, the main character's name is Meara Kathleen. Idk that I'd count this as 100% accurate but she's from Ireland so it's supposed to be a Celtic or Gaelic name I guess. I've never heard of it tho myself.
I like it, either as MEER-ah or me-AIR-ah

I love it. I pronounce it MEE-ra.
I would have pronounce it me-ARE-ah. I have heard it somewhere, but not on a real person. I think it's pretty.
I have only heard Meara as as surname here in Ireland, never as a first name. It's said Mar-a.
Generally speaking, I would not put much credence on the name of Irish characters in books. One of my favourite books has an 19th century Irish girl called Colleen in it - I cringe every time I read it.

Thanks! Yes I don't put much stock in the names in books either. They never seem authentic or even forgivable. This was set in the early 1900's.
