I been thinking a lot about this name lately. The only real drawback I am finding is that it is a bit stuffy sounding. Wdyt? Is Vera still to dusty to bring back?

I love Vera! I never really thought of her as stuffy and old-ladyish- she's gorgeous, understated and elegant in my head.

I like Vera a lot, and I've never thought of it as stuffy because it makes me think of Vera Wang, (pretty automatically actually, because I've never heard it used anywhere else).

I have only ever heard it as VEER-ah. And VER-a with my accent just doesn't sound right.

The English pronunciation is "VEER-uh." The Russians pronounce it, "VYEHR-uh."
Who pronounces it, "VEH-ruh?" I've never heard that.

In Croatia Vera is 'VEH-rah' and Vjera is 'VYEH-rah'.

I say VEH-ruh. Although I think that's just an accent thing, because I tried saying VEER-uh and I felt like I was putting on a really phony American accent. Plus I speak too fast anyway.

I don't know that it was ever majorly "in", so there's nothing to bring it back to... It's just not that common, but it's a decent name and usable.

Aw, Vera was my grandmother's name. So I'm biased. But I really think it's a lovely name and definitely ready for a comeback.
If Clementine, Hazel and Ava can come back, why not Vera too?
Mns can be tricky. Vera is such a power-house of a name. It's hard to find a mn that can stand up next to it. Have you got any in mind?
