My first instinct when it comes to this name is to think of Louella McCluskey from The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which I read when I was 6. As a result, I think of someone stuck-up. But I think it sounds cute, if not a little nickname-ish to me.

I like it, it doesn't sound very redneck-ish to me, but that's because I live in Georgia and have seen much, much worse.

I enjoy Luella -- I certainly wouldn't denounce it as a "redneck" name.

I dont think it sounds rednecky. I think it is cute as a nick name. But, my grandma has a cousin named Luella and I think her mom's name was Gwendolyn and she used Luella to "honor" herself. I don't know how you get Luella out of Gwendolyn, but she did.
Anyway, that is off subject. I just don't see any middle names that would go good with this name.

My roommate's favorite name; she plans to name her first daughter Luella Rose. Personally, I think it sounds trashy and lower-class. Reminds me of Mayella Ewell from "To Kill A Mockingbird," who was really a white trash type of girl.

it reminds me of Mayella aswell, but not until you said that. Its funny becasue i have always felt the same way about Luella as Mayella.
