Betty is my grandmother's first name, and she apparently hates it because she goes by her middle name.
I've never been a big fan, but I can't say it's an ugly name. It's just very reminiscent of the 30s 40s and 50s. So it's sort of dated, especially if it's used as a given name rather than a nn.
I think it's a good character name, but right now, not so good for a child born in the 21st century.
