[Facts] the meaning of Parisa
Well, just looking through the list, I came across my name and the meaning is "NOT" really correct and the reason that I know this, is because years ago when I was in Iran, I went through some old Persian books to find the actual meaning of my name.
In Farsi "Parisa" is short for "Pari Afsa". "Pari" means fairy but "Afsa" comes from the word magic. So the whole name means "someone who captures fairies with her enchanting/magical powers!"
Hope that helps,
Parisa

That's lovely but a responsible etymologyst wouldn't go so far with the elements. You've got 'fairy' + 'magic' from your two root elements so perhaps 'fairy magic' or 'magical fairy' but you can't fill in entire sentences without moving away from the evidence in front of you and thus potentially from the intention of the original creator/culture. There are certainly cases where the literal meaning infers or implies another and cultural context must be considered but in general I'm always highly suspicious of entire sentences like that - it's clear that there are Farsi words for things like 'capture' and 'power/s' and they're not in there ;o) But if you've read the original Farsi and have evidence of your meaning, write to Mike via the contact link with what you found and he handles amendments to the database.
