Help[Opinions] Thomas or Richard?
Just wondering which one you prefer. They are my favorites at the moment.
Do you think Richard is dated? Do you know many guys named Richard and do they go by their full name or by a nickname? Do you think it'll continue to lose places?
Is Thomas still too common? Do you see it falling further or will it rise again? Do you know anyone named Thomas? Do they go by their full name or by a nickname?
How old are the guys named Richard and Thomas you know? In general are the guys named Thomas younger than those named Richard? Do you know any young boys or babies named Thomas or Richard? Do they get called by their full names?
Richard would always be Richard. Thomas would be called by his full name most of the time but he'd be Tom occasionally.

Richard is currently me favorite male name; I don't consider it dated. I suspect it will continue to decline in popularity, but remain fairly common in the long run.
I don't know anyone who bears the name.
I think Thomas will stay reasonably steady as far as the statistics go. It's common, yes, but not nearly as much as it once was. Classic names are not going to become unusual.
My eight-year-old cousin and elderly grandfather are both named Thomas. I'm also acquainted with a Thomas who is seventeen.
My cousin goes by Tommy and the acquaintance by T.D.
Richard, Thomas, and Cecily would make a charming set, but Estella and Daisy seem out of place.
I don't know anyone who bears the name.

I prefer Richard over Thomas.
One, I just don't care for Thomas...it just seems like kind of default name to me, like how some people think of John, just as oh, it's a boy, let's name him a biblical name, ok default name: Thomas. I also think it's very boring.
I know a lot of Thomas's, of all sorts of different ages, some old and middle aged, several in their 20/30's, and a few younger ones, and it's super popular around here for a middle name. One of the Thomas' I know goes by the letter T along with his last name Bell (T-Bell) and he is 60ish, two others go by Tommy (ages are around 8 and 18), one in his 40's who goes by Tom, one in his late 20's who goes by T.J., and the rest all go by Thomas.
I only know two Richard's, one who is 60ish, and one little 4 year old boy. It's really cute on him, and sometimes he goes by Ricky, but most of the time he's Richard. I think it is so handsome and dignified, and would be such a breath of fresh air! I think it's adorable.
I think Richard and Thomas make great brothers though.
I also think with Estella, Cecily, and Daisy, Richard fits much better. Thomas feels to classic and stuffy to go with such quirky sisters, it makes Daisy feel out of place. But with Richard, Daisy fits right in, because Richard is the more quirky choice out of the two.

I much prefer Thomas to Richard. While its a fairly common name (thomas I mean) its a classic. For some reason I consider Richard to be dated. But Thomas, Richard, Cecily and Estella make fabulous siblings. Daisy feels a little out of place there though. I love the name Daisy, just not quite the same feel as the others.

I consider Richard a classic. It doesn't feel dated to me (despite the fact that the Richards I've known are all in their early 30's or older).
I've only known a few Richards. Most have gone by their full name or Rick.
I don't know anyone named Thomas. It's not too common for me... *shrug*
There are a few people on another board that I post at that have babies named Thomas. I don't kow what they go by, though.

I don't like either names, but if I had to pick I'd choose Thomas. All I can think about when I hear Thomas is Thomas the Tank Engine.
Richard is dated imo. I don't think this name fits young children. I can think of two Richard's that I know of and one goes by Rich/Richie (he's around 16) and the other goes by Dick (he's my friends dad, so somewhere around 50)

I really don't care for Richard. It is really dated where I live. I know a lot of men who go by both Richard and Ricky, and find that the older generation tend to go by Dick or Dickie.
Thomas is much more popular just now, but I find it much more pleasant. I know Thomas's of all ages who really suit it. Most use their full name, but I know some by Tommy or Tom.
I think Thomas sounds younger than Richard, and I know that there are a lot more babies being called Thomas than Richard in Scotland just now.
And finally, I don't like them for brotheres. Thomas, Estella, Cecily and Daisy sound right together, and Richard is the name that feels out of place to me.
