This is the Irish spelling. As I understand it, Catriona is used more in Scotland. I love the nn Cat.

I did think about Caitriona, but there's the spelling issue. I have these characters practically talking to me in my head, with very firm opinions, and the dad insists that it must be a name that's easy to spell and pronounce. (He makes fun of Irish spellings.) And it's probably too painfully similar in sound to the recently deceased Kate. They wanted to honor her, but also give the baby a name that's her own.
I guess I'll think about it some more. ;)
