As homage to the great Neil Gaiman. . .. . . my five year old daughter's middle name is Coraline. I love him, I love the book.

I can't help but think of the actual substance of coralline when I hear the name. It's a type of algae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coralline_algaeHowever I'm not a big fan of the whole Coral/Cora/Carol/Caroline type of names, so maybe I'm biased.

I like the sound of it, I prefer it to Caroline. Never been a fan of Caroline. But out of this name family the only one that I absolutely love is Coralie.Lea

I love it - especially with the nickname Cora or Coralie - but I prefer Caroline, just for tradition's sake. Still, Coraline doesn't sound awfully tacky like invented names sometimes do, but people would probably associate the name with the character/movie/book.

It's not just a movie, it was a book first. I prefer Coraline to Caroline, but really, I don't care for -line at all. I like Caro.

I like it too. Much more than Caroline / Caralyn. Ever since I saw that preview I thought it was a cute name.

I'm torn. On the one hand Coraline does sound sweet. On the other hand, it smacks of playing fast and loose with Caroline. And "chorus line" keeps dancing around in the back of my head when I see / hear Coraline. On balance, I prefer the names Caroline, Coral and Coralie much more.
