Help[Opinions] Lille and Austell
These are the names of the villages where two branches of my family came from - one is in Northern France, the other is in Cornwall, England.
When I first discovered them in High School, I thought it was would be absolutely amazing to name children after these places. Not only would the names be unique, but the fact that it's tied in to family history seemed so romantic to me.
I've cooled off this idea quite a bit since then, but I found an old name list with them on it, and I'm thinking of reconsidering them. I would use both for girls (Austell as a boys' name sounds too much like I was trying to be clever and find a new "Austin" variation). They are pronounced (as far as I understand) "Leel" and "Awe-stell". I would almost definitely use Stella as a nickname for Austell.
What are people's opinions on these ideas?

I don't like place names. I know they hold a certain charm for some people, but I never saw the point in naming your children after towns/counties/states, etc. Even if these towns have family history, I don't really think they work; they just don't sound like names.

Austell is more of a boy name in my opinion and I don't really care for the sound and look of it but it's ok. Why not use Austella as a full name if you intend to use Stella as a nickname?
Lille is...weird. I lived in Lille in 2006 and it's a great city but...I don't know...it's not a name. I think the pronunciation would be a problem. I would say that it's pronounced more like Lil than Leel but there's a risk that people think it's some kind of alternative spelling of Lily as well.
Overall, I think they are better as middle names than first names and better for boys than girls. They're not great but if they mean a lot to you I say go for it.

My mum's family come from Cornwall, not far from St Austell :)
I've always thought it would be a good boys name (maybe better as a mn, my combo is William Austell), I never thought of it as particulary feminine.
As it's pronounced more like 'Awe-stul' though, Stella seems a bit of a stretch, but it could work.
Lille is ok, again maybe better as a mn as people might confuse it with Lillie.

I love Lillie. I'v not met a person with that name. I don't like Austell.
