I think of the city Xi'an. The pronunciation (I don't speak Chinese, so correct me if I'm mistaken) is sy-an or shy-an. I don't mind Xian terribly, but Zian is trendy and contrived.

Xi'an is a city in China. I can't even explain how it is pronounced but it doesn't sound like Zian. I dislike them both. Xian is a city to me and Zian is trendy.
