I love Margaret. It's so dignified and classic--I've used it as a mn for Emily.
I think that the nickname Margot is stunning and Greta is nice enough. If you're worried about it being dated, Maggie's a rather youthful nickname. Just stay away from Peggy: it's very old-ladyish and doesn't sound or look very appealing, quite different from the lovely, queenly Margaret.
Margareta is also a lovely name, and less common than Margaret.
