WDYTO Isobel for a girl? I like it. I dislike Isabella and Isabelle/Isabel but I like Isobel. Is it too popular? MN suggestions?

Oooh-- I love Isobel Petra! Petra is kind of a "wishful thinking" name choice of mine... if only I could combine it with something tasteful & get DH to agree!

It's the only spelling of the name I like.

I love Isobel, especially this spelling which I see the least on boards but in England where I live it's definitley the more popular spelling.

Isobel Mary is great. Very tea and crumpets. :-)All of your combinations are nice. That one just jumped out at me the most.

Like you i only like Isobel not all the other variants. I only really like it as a middle name though

I don't think it's too popular, although it might be annoying to have people constantly mistake the name for Isabelle. I love Isobel and it is by far my favorite form of the name, because it's stronger and seems to have more substance than the alternatives. I think a one-syllable middle name would flow nicely -- Jane? Maude?

I don't care for it or any of the variants.

I've always loved Isabelle and Isabel. The Isobel spelling has been an acquired taste for me. But now that I've grown to love it too, its roots in me are deeper. I have two different feelings from it. On the one hand, Isobel has a strange, almost magical feeling for me. Very bell-book-and-candle-ish. Exotic. But Isobel also makes me think of WWII England, and sensible shoes austerity. I can almost picture someone saying, "We've no time for fancy Isa- names at the moment. Stick an -o- in there and get on with it." I can't think of another name that gives me such schizophrenic feelings. Isobel Mariah
