[Opinions] Sybil and Richard.
Recently I've begun to really dig both of these names. I'm not sure whether or not I'd use them but I really, really like them.Sybil just brings to mind a highly intelligent, well-read woman. I know that it still has the book/movie connotation but I feel that it's beginning to fade. It's unusual without being overly so.Richard brings to mind a gentleman that attended my church when I was a kid. He was older and one of those very well-connected people that stay in the background. (I grew up in DC, so I'm talking connected in politics/government, not the Mafia). He was awesome - he helped create the zipcode system, traveled around the word, was always jovial, always a nice word to say to someone. Now we have a young gentleman at work who has the name, though he goes by Ricky. Everyone teases him about having an old man's name but hearing the name has made me really, really like it. I don't like any of the nicknames, though - not Rich, Richie, Rick, Ricky or Dick (which is what the gentleman went by.)

Sybil is pretty cool. I wouldn't use it myself but if I met a little Sybil I'd be pleased.Richard I've never really warmed to. I went to school with a few Richards (there were two in my fifth grade class) so I don't really see it as an "old man" name, but I just don't really like it. And the nicknames are not great.

I really like Richard, maybe even love the name, but prefer the British English pronounciation...
I'm not sure bout Sybil, sometimes I like it, sometimes I dislike the sound of it very much.

My cat and my brotherRichard has never been an old-man name to me (I think in the UK it's one of those ever-present but not commonly used names), mainly because it's my younger brother's name.Sybil is my cat. I've always liked it but I like it more now I'm saying it daily. However, it will always now be tied to a certain little psycho so I couldn't use it on a child. The pet insurance man misspelt it as Sybit, which amused us. It soon became Sybby/Sybs so I'm not sure if that would bother you.

I love Richard. It's such a handsome name. (I do like the nn Rick, though.)I also like Sybil, but only spelled Sibyl.

I like Cybele...but it's pronounced SIB-eh-lee. Richard seems a bit dated to me.

I like Cybele as well. I find it prettier. Sybil is NMS. It just doesn't sound very appealing to me.I've never really been a fan of the name Richard because I don't care for the way it sounds and I don't care for any of the NN's for it. I especially can't stand Ricky. As a whole, Richard isn't not horrible or anything though; it just seems kind of dull. I think it would be better as a MN.
