It's nms, but if you don't live in Ireland I suggest anglicizing the spelling.

I really like it but people keep telling me not to use it because it sounds like eighteen.

Not a name i've heard before, it's pronounced just like 'eighteen' isn't it?

Not quite. Without the accent on the E, it's pronounced eh-teen. Like you would write Ettine.
