My best friend in the first grade was Nimira (ne-MEER-ah). I always loved her name, and she is still known to most as Nim to this day :)

I love the film Nim's Island!
I like Nim short for Nimue, but I also like it as a name in its own right.
I once saw a little girl on holiday called Naomi, and her family called her Nims (yes, with an s on the end), and that was before the film came out.

It would be fine as a nickname for Nimue.

Nim is cute as bug's teeth. And that's why I would never use it as a name on its own. It's one of those names that's crying out for a more formal name.

I'd love to see something scary and impossible as the formal name. "Hi. My name is Nim." "Oh, how interesting. Is it short for anything?" "Yes. Mnemosyne." (prat fall backwards)

Mneme, Melpomene, Clytemnestra, Hermione, even Nemesis (for a characterin a story only) -- they could all work.
