Help[Opinions] Georgia or Isla
Which name do you prefer and why? Could you please list some pros and cons for both names? My husband and I are torn between the two.

My name is Georgia, so guess which I prefer?
Pros:
Not common but most people have heard of it.
Has a strong history.
Good nn potential, although most people will not automatically use a nn - most will use Georgia unless told otherwise.
Cons:
She might get tired of hearing the same songs.
At least in the U.S., fewer people know how to spell it nowadays.
Also fewer people know how to pronounce it. In recent years, I've been hearing jor-JEE-ah more and more.
I honestly do not know how to pronounce Isla, although I notice it is mentioned frequently here. I gather it is well-liked.

I love Isla pronounced EYE-LA. I've heard it pronounced IS-LA as well. I think the first sounds prettier. Although I think its trendier than Georgia. What about Savannah?

Georgia you could call Georgie for short.
Both have a potential to be made fun of.

Obviously Isla. The only downsides to the name, for me, are spelling and pronunciation issues. But with the popularity of Isla Fisher and with the name hitting the Top 1000 so high last year (came in for the first time ever and in the 600s), I'd say it might not be quite so obscure in the next couple of years. However, I don't think we need to worry about it hitting the top 20, either. This is all assuming you're in the U.S., btw.
Georgia is gorgeous as well. Not really many downsides to it, except her being called Georgia Peach or something, lol. I just greatly prefer Isla.

I thought it 'charted' before? There's definitely Islas born at the turn of the 20th century and looking at the statistics on this site, it seems to appear.
I know use goes back almost another hundred years in Britain but I'm still more curious about its use in the United States.

I never realized that. I just looked it up, and it did hit the U.S. charts in the late 1800s and very early 1900s coming in at #600+. I wonder if that was mostly Scottish immigrants' daughters born here in the U.S. :b

Not just a "one off wonder" that some like to claim it is.
The earliest female Isla I have found so far was 1800 but that was Scotland. Obviously a few male Islays go earlier than that.

Definitely Georgia! I'm not sure if you're in the US or not, but Isla was one of the biggest jumpers in terms of popularity. That means that in a few decades, the name will likely sound dated to the late 2000's. Georgia, on the other hand, is timeless.
Pros and cons:

pros: not very common in the US, no pronunciation issues, great songs with Georgia in the title, pleasing lush sound, seems both strong and friendly
cons: name of a state/country (this may bother some)

pros: association with Isla Fischer who is very beautiful, looks pretty on paper, pleasant delicate sound
cons: pronunciation issues (if I didn't know of Isla Fischer, I would pronounce this name like the Spanish word for island), rapidly rising in popularity, a little too "dainty" sounding for my tastes, will blend in with all the Ella's.

I just typed a long response and poof- disappeared right when I was about to send:( Anyhoo...I prefer Georgia- it sounds so lush and is both sweet and spunky. I like Isla but it is a bit too soft for me- much like Ella- Georgia is beautiful!!!

Isla would be the more uncommon choice without a doubt but has its fair share of pronunciation bothers. If that would annoy you, I'd go with Georgia although I'd love Isla Georgina! :-)

I definitely prefer Isla even though some people might mispronounce or misspell it. Georgia is okay, but I really dislike the nickname Georgie.

I'd pick Isla. Georgia is good too, but Isla is probably less common and just sounds a little prettier in my opinion.

I like both, but Isla rolls off the tongue easier. The only con I can see is that someone who does not know the name (like me) will pronounce it as IS-la.
Georgia's charming too and you can always save the one that isn't used for another time or a middle name.

I prefer Isla, I find it a bit more interesting. Both are nice, though.
