[Opinions] Re: Jaime
Well, I'm a girl, and this is my name so I'll let you know how I feel.I think Jamie is absolutely adorable on a boy. If it wasn't my name, even though I'm spelled differently, I would use it in a heartbeat. However, if you spell it Jaime, he will be constantly correcting people his whole life as in "No,not HIE-may, JAY-mee." And he will have to spell it out and deal with people mispelling it any way. It's beyond tedious. So, while I love Jamie, if you're going to name a boy that, give him the small mercy of having the easily recognizable spelling.

Who pronounces it HIE-may? I don't know of anyone who would do that (I live in the U.S.)

Jaime, pronounced HIE-may, is the Spanish version of James, in the same way that Juan, pronounced WON, is the Spanish version of John. So to Spanish speaking people, Jaime is a male name pronounced HIE-may. English speaking people tend to think of it as a girl's name pronounced JAY-mee.Jaime, pronounced JAY-mee, is my nephew's full name. It's always irritated me. I agree with some posters here that a full name of James with the nickname Jamie would have been better, but my sister didn't want James because she feared the nickname Jim. Why the spelling, I don't know.
