[Opinions] Blenda?
Today is the name day of Beda and Blenda in Sweden (both female names). I think I kind of like Blenda - what do you think?

I like Bede on a boy, but not Beda on a girl. Blenda just reminds me of the word bland.

Okay, I really dislike Blenda for the reasons the others gave, but what does it mean?

The meaning is a bit unclear but it is possible that it derives from the word "blända" (pronounced the same as Blenda) meaning 'dazzle'. Blenda could be related to 'dazzling beauty'.

Thanks. What about Beda?

BedaAgain, the meaning of Beda is a bit unclear. It could originally be an English masculine name. There was an English Benedictine monk named Beda Venerabilis (672 - 735) who wrote about the history of the English people. However, in English his name was Bede and not Beda. Beda could derive from the Swedish verb "be" or "bedja" (occasionally spelt without J - beda) meaning pray. eta: Oh, it seems like the "pray" meaning could be correct. If you look up Bede it gives you more information.

Sounds like Splenda. Or blender. I really don't like it at all.

Belinda over Blenda

Blender is what I thought of at first, too. My second thought was someone saying Brenda while imitating a Chinese accent. Aside from that, I think both of them (especially Beda) have a certain charm about them. If Blenda wasn't used in an English-speaking country (I'm assuming "blender" doesn't exist in Swedish), I'd really like it.

That's what I thought of as well.

Beda is rather pretty, I think. It makes me think of a hockey player with the surname Bayda though. Blenda just looks like a bad stereotypical Asian mispronunciation of Brenda to me, though once I got used to it, I think it might grow on me.

I Agree: the Brenda - Blenda thing is what makes me insecure. Can you think of any nice middle names for Blenda?
