I know this isn’t an Irish thing, but I’m pretending it is and using it anyway.
Sarla grabbed her purse, briefcase, and Yonca’s small hand. “Come, we’re late. Mummy‘s got to get to work.” The three family cats meowed around them begging for their morning meal. “Kai, could you feed the cats, please?!” she yelled to her husband.
“Sure!” He called back from across the house.
“Bye, dear!” she called.
“Bye, Daddy!” Yonca echoed.
“Wait!” He ran to his family, kissing first his wife, them his sweet three-year-old daughter. “Bye, my girls.” he smiled. Then quickly, passing the empty car seat on the small porch, Sarla left with their daughter for yet another busy day of work and pre-school.
An hour later when Kai was heading to work, he fed the cats as promised, opened the door, and went to the sidewalk to catch a the next cab. He too passed the car seat on the steps without a glance, but a little cooing sound got his attention. He turned around fully expecting that he’d accidentally let one of the cats out, but to his surprise it wasn’t a cat at all. Instead the empty car seat, was no longer empty. He rushed over to it and bent down. The newborn settled in a thin blanket in the seat was shivering and getting fussy. Kai’s world was spinning. He looked around swiftly for the mother or person who had dropped the child off, but there was no one. He picked the carrier up and brought it back into the house. Quickly he rang his wife. “Sarla, Sarla, there’s a baby in the carrier!”
“What?” she exclaimed, “A baby?”
“Sari, I’m not lying to you!” he practically shouted. “There is a child in the carrier!!”
Sarla and Kai had put the carrier in front of their home a few months ago after hearing that newborns were often abandoned by mothers who could not keep them.

Eli and Lydia have decided to try international adoption. They traveled to China and adopted an adorable little girl. They knew Zhen Mei was going to be their little girl the first time they saw her. Eliana is now four and loves having her little sister around. Mei has long dark hair and soulful brown eyes. She is not a newborn (in fact, she is two), but that doesn't make her any less special to us. Eliana loves to play with Mei and the two are quite the conspirators.
Eliana started pre-school this year and Mei was very sad to see her go away three times a week, but she was very excited that she got to spend more time with Mommy (who only works part-time in a child-friendly environment).

You'll never believe the story of our newest arrival! We're not sure how he arrived even now, but he showed up curled in a silver mixing bowl on our doorstep. Sari discovered him--at four, she loves to open the door and "check the weather"--and called to us that a baby was sitting there.
Sure enough, a little boy in what looked like a silver bowl--but it was large, so maybe it was more like a wok--with a very thin, silvery blanket and an odd little note. It was completely illegible--it looked as though it was written in a different alphabet, but not like one Rufus or I had ever seen before. The only recognizably English-looking word on it was JOURNEY.
Rufus and I could hardly leave the poor boy outside. We brought him and his mixing-bowl-basket inside, and Sari immediately asked us if he was her brother. It was odd; they do look a bit alike--they both have the same colouring. However, this little boy has narrower eyes that're extremely dark and very long fingers.
We couldn't bear leaving him to the foster-care system, and we hated the idea of giving him up after he came into our lives. And so we've kept him and named him Journey; it fit because not only did it say JOURNEY on the note he came to us with, he also must have come a long way to us--we've never seen anyone who looks quite like him.
His middle name, Celestine, is after mine, of course. But it also seemed to fit because we call him our baby dropped from the heavens. Sari dotes upon him, as do our other friends and relatives.
(The baby was dropped by aliens. He's half-human, half-alien, with an emphasis on the human.)

Carrie has wanted to be a big sister for so long, so Jude and I decided that we wanted to adopt a little girl. We found our adorable little angel, Melina Rose, on a family vacation to Greece. She is such a beautiful little girl with curly, brown hair and green-brown eyes. We decided to keep her first name because it's so pretty and fits her so well; we loved it from the moment we heard it. We used Rose because we've always loved the sound of it. Carrie couldn't be happier with her little sister and loves to help take care of her. Melina gets so much attention from her big sister, but it's wonderful that they get along so well. Melina gets a big grin on her face when she sees Carrie come into the room, and Carrie loves that she can always make her baby sister smile and laugh. The two of them are so cute together!

Melanie came to be with us when we got a surprise visit from one of Leo's old friends. He and his girlfriend asked if we could watch the 7 month old Melanie for a couple of months while they pursued a "business venture". Leo mentioned that his friend was shifty and unreliable so we were unsure of doing this for them. When they told us that there only other option was to leave her with relatives who were drug users, we agreed.
The first two months things were fine. Melanie adjusted nicely and the boys loved her. Her parents called once a week to check in. But as time passed, we heard less of them and instead they would e-mail us. They didn't seem too concerned at how their daughter was doing. A month after Melanie turned one (her party funded and put on by us, without even a present sent from her parents) her parents showed up at our door step. We were saddened assuming they were there to take Melanie home. Instead they told us that they had done some thinking while gone and realized they worked better without a baby in tow. We were astonished when they asked if we would be interested in adopting Melanie.
We took a day to think the decision over. After all the boys were only toddlers and we had wanted to wait a while longer before trying for another baby. In the end we decided we were in love with Melanie and didn't want to give her back or to another couple. Her parents signed all the paper work and within a few months, her adoption was finalized! We were thrilled she was officially apart of our family.
Go on, be evil and get lazy.

Greetings Everyone,
With the Holiday Season fast approaching we thought it would be time to drop you a note/family essay in the Holiday cards. We're all well and hope you are the same.
Leo, as you know is currently being kept busy at the hospital by all the tasks and chores that come along with his new role as a Chief Resident. It keeps him humble to know that when he gets home he still has to do the laundry.
My residency on the same note is going well and I seem to have made a place for myself in the Cardio-thoracic side of things, and I'm looking to see what kind of fields I can work with from there and if I want to specialize further.
Together we try to alternate shifts (It's a lot harder now that he's Chief, but ours days off tend to work out well) and it works somehow so that we both spend plenty of time with the little man.
Marcus, ever a joy, turned two this year and has become quite the brave little soul. He's practically a double for Leo at that age (his Mom confuses the baby pictures) He's currently interested with all things animals and has given both Leo and myself some scares recently proving his bravery (stubborness?), but he's made it worth it. His favorite pastime besides chasing down innocent creatures in the street to inspect is to be measured on the wall. He's determined to be as tall as "Daddy" within the year. Though he's sprouting like a weed I don't think he'll tower like Leo for atleast another decade. *grin* What currently keeps Marc happiest though is the newest family addition... We'd like everyone to meet, Hugo. A shaggy black Bouvier des Flandres pup. It wasn't really planned but the timing couldn't be any more perfect.
Last month I was out in back field playing by the water with Marc (Leo was on-call) when a massive shaggy black dog came wandering from infront of the house. Thinking to be safe I reached to snag Marc and shuffle his little self inside but the little scamp was already tearing across the field. I reached him just as he reached the dog but the dog seemed pretty unfazed by the whole matter.

Sirius, Severus and I were taking a walk through the park one day just after their fourth birthday. As the boys were running about in the leaves and tossing acorns, I began to hear a very eerie rendition of rock-a-bye baby playing somewhere. I glanced around trying to figure out where the tune was coming from, but couldn't see anything. Just as the final notes rang out, I looked up to see huge wooden box falling from the tree right above me. It hit the sidewalk with a thud, splitting open. Sev and Siri ran over to see what had happened. As we walked closer I could see that it was not a box, but a cradle, complete with a cooing baby inside!
The police investigated for months, but to no avail, the mystery was never solved nor did they find the guardian of the baby. Leo and I took it as a sign and adopted said cooing baby into our lives. We named her Gizem Ayla Alannah, which roughly means, O mystery oak tree child.
Ok, thats as creative as I get folks.

Andy and I started trying just after Ella's second birthday for a second child, and thought that we would get pregnant as easily second time around as we did with Ella. Unfortunately though, it was not to be. When we still weren't pregnant after six months we went and had all sorts of tests, and everything came back negative, no one could figure out why we couldn't seem to get pregnant.
So we decided to keep trying, but when we still hadn't conceived when Ella's third birthday rolled around, we began to explore other options. We were at an adoption agency a few months later when we saw Leo's picture, and fell in love. Leo was just 3 weeks old at the time, and his teenage mother had died in child birth. No one knew who the father was.
So we set the ball in motion, and then a week before Ella's 4th birthday we got the phone call. Leo, now 6 months old, was ours. We got on the first plane to Brazil to sign the paper work, and when we left two weeks later, we had our new son with us.
Leo has beautiful olive skin and chocolate brown eyes, true to his Brazilian heritage. He's gorgeous, and i'm not saying that just because i'm biased!!!! Ella loves her baby brother and tells him everyday that he's even more specialer than all the other babies in the whole wide world cause mummy and daddy chose him over all of the other babies.

The Fairfax family would like to welcome a new adopted daughter Aravis Bree! It has been almost three years after the birth of Tirian & Rilian and Jane has been unable to conseive. Our hearts have been tugged by the story of one of my co-worker's neices who recently became pregnant at the age of sixteen. She knew she didn't want to get an abortion and yet she really couldn't keep the baby. My wife and I really felt sorry for this girl and wanted to help but didn't know how at first. During this time we had been in contact with an adoption agency and soon after we heard of this poor girl's situation our agent said there was a possibility that we could adopt a neborn if we wanted. Of course we said yes, and as we looked into the situation of the birth-mother we realised it was the same girl we had heard about. We hadn't spent much time this Laura before she told us that she wanted us to adopt her baby. We were surprised and thrilled! My wife got to be there at the birth of this precious baby girl. Jane said she came into the world with her brown eyes wide open staring at everything around her. We had talked about names beforehand and Laura thought it was a cool idea to use names from the Chronicles of Narnia, the only trouble was that she wasn't a fan of the main characters names for girls: Lucy, Susan or Jill! So we searched the books again and found Aravis and Bree in "The Horse and His Boy". Laura really liked these names and so did we! Her nickname is Ara, which we love. Laura is now finishing up high-school and plans to go to nursing school when she's done. We feel so blessed to be able to have helped Laura but also to have a beautiful new daughter.

Ha! The beginning of your story sounds like my RL event of how we adopted Keren and Essie.
I had always wanted to adopt because my brother was adopted and my parents always forced that it was a good thing to adopt (thus my sig). Their mother was just a distant friend of the family and when she became pregnant at age fourteen we agreed to take them. We didn't know it was twins when we agreed either and when she found out it was twins her mother was scared we wouldn't want them both or not at all, but when I found out I thought it was awesome because I'm a twin too!

PS: Did you know you typed "conseive" instead of "conceive"?

That's cool!
I love adoption stories and twins, they are both so special! I feel so sorry for those kids who don't / didn't have a nice home to grow up in like I did. When I get married / have my own place I'd like to consider adoption. There are so many kids out there who need a good home! That's cool that you're a twin too!
PS: No, sorry I didn't know I typed "conseive" instead of "conceive"! Silly me! :)

Silly me! :)

DDog: Cookie Dough
Link is crazy about animals and had been bugging Constanine and I about getting a pet. We didn't think he was old enough yet. But I guess someone else did cause a few months ago a friends neighbors dog gave birth to six puppies and wanted to get rid of them fast. Which meant they were free, so we couldn't pass it up. So now we have a the cuttiest little puppy, Cookie Dough. She's a mutt, a mixture of a terrier and a collie. Light colored and full of life.
