This is my son, Leslie - he goes by Les
You say: Hi, Les.
You think: Sounds dated on a girl, but kind of refreshing on a boy.
This is my daughter, Wilma Ginevra - she goes by Billie Jean
You say: Hello, Billie Jean.
You think: Wilma Ginevra is lovely. Billie would be a nicer nickname than Billie Jean, if you ask me.
This is my son, Harlequin - he goes by Quin
You say: That's an interesting name!
You think: It is. Quin is nice, and Harlequin could definitely grow on me.
This is my daughter, Antonietta - she goes by Nedda
You say: Hello Nedda, nice to meet you.
You think: Antoinette is beautiful, but Antoinetta is a little bit too elaborate for me. Nedda isn't bad, but sounds a little old for a girl. Netta or Nettie would be my preference.
This is my son, Pierre - he goes by Pierrot
You say: Hi there, Pierrot.
You think: Don't particularly like it....
This is my daughter, Charlotte - she goes by Lotte
You say: Nice to meet you, Lotte.
You think: How lovely!
This is my son, Hercule
You say: Hello, Hercule.
You think: Interesting, and probably easier to wear than Hercules.
This is my daughter, Amore
You say: Hello, Amore. You have a lovely name.
You think: Very lovely. Although I do admit it makes me think 'armoire' when written out.
This is my son, Walter - he goes by Walt
You say: Nice to meet you, Walt.
You think: Disney? :D
This is my daughter, Psyche
You say: Hi, Psyche. What an interesting name!
You think: of Psyche in a Dress by Francesca Lia Block :)

You say: Hi, Les!
You think: Not my style at all, but nothing wrong with it.
This is my daughter, Wilma Ginevra - she goes by Billie Jean
You say: Hello, Billie Jean. That's such a cute nn!
You think: I wouldn't like it as a full name, but Wilma Ginevra is really stretching. If there was a less awkward full name this could be brilliant.
This is my son, Harlequin - he goes by Quin
You say: Hi, Quin!
You think: Quin's nice; the more I hear it, the more I like it. Harlequin is all bad associations.
This is my daughter, Antonietta - she goes by Nedda
You say: Hi, Nedda!
You think: Both gorgeous, though Nedda isn't my favorite nn for this.
This is my son, Pierre - he goes by Pierrot
You say: Hi, Pierrot!
You think: I didn't realize that was a diminuitive of Pierre. But I do like it, even though all I can think of is the band.
This is my daughter, Charlotte - she goes by Lotte
You say: Hello, Lotte!
You think: I love it.
This is my son, Hercule
You say: Hi, Hercule!
You think: Not something I'd use, as much as I like Agatha Christie.
This is my daughter, Amore
You say: Hello, Amore! What a lovely name.
You think: It's so sweet. I could never use it but I do like it!
This is my son, Walter - he goes by Walt
You say: Hi, Walt.
You think: Whether Walt or Walter, I still pity the kid.
This is my daughter, Psyche
You say: Hi, Psyche.
You think: It's a great myth and a really interesting name but she'll certainly get teased.

Personally...
This is my son, Leslie - he goes by Les
You say: "Nowadays, the name is mostly feminine."
You think: Although Les does make it more masculine.
This is my daughter, Wilma Ginevra - she goes by Billie Jean
You say: "A lovely name without the nickname."
You think: ...is not my lover.
This is my son, Harlequin - he goes by Quin
You say: "I have always adored the Harlequin."
You think: But no wonder he goes by Quin...
This is my daughter, Antonietta - she goes by Nedda
You say: "Nedda. A Sicilian nickname, so it seems?"
You think: I rather like this one.
This is my son, Pierre - he goes by Pierrot
You say: "Pierrot and Harlequin! How clever!"
You think: A clown, although the association has since faded...
This is my daughter, Charlotte - she goes by Lotte
You say: "I have always loved the name."
You think: Little Lotte?
This is my son, Hercule
You say: "Hercule Poirot?"
You think: Ce n'est rien. Je me suis trompe.
This is my daughter, Amore
You say: "Love is a beautiful concept - and said in a beautiful tongue."
You think: That's Amore.
This is my son, Walter - he goes by Walt
You say: "Oh - reminds me of someone..."
You think: Walt Disney and Walter Kovacs, I think.
This is my daughter, Psyche
You say: "Psyche. Good name."
You think: Mispronunciation may lead to Skye...

A clown, although the association has since faded...
I doubt that, clown was the first thing that popped in my head, I'm pretty sure a lot of people still connect Pierrot to the sad clown.

Oh, truly?
I thought the asssociation had faded along with the usage of the name. If not, very well.

I think ot a book before a clown either way I like the name
