Evangeline. It sounds strong and seems more "real" than Arabella, which strikes me as frilly and totally bratty.

EvangelineI don't like Arabella at all. The Ara- part sound sooo ugly to me.

Arabella. Before I read the post I was going to say that the nn should be Ara, but Aria is great. I like Lina too, but not as much. And I'm a bit tired of Evangeline.

Evangeline, I thinkEvangeline smacks of Christianity to me, so if the child is not being raised Christian, I wouldn't use it. (It means simply "good news," but I've never heard evangel- language outside of "the good news of Jesus Christ"... maybe that's my New Testament Greek coming into play though). I am Christian, but the name is a GP for me since it's a little religiously zealous IMO and I'm wary of heavily religiously-affiliated names. But I still like Evangline "Lina" more than Arabella "Aria".

This is a tough one for me, both are on my favourites list. I think though, if I am forced to choose, I would have to say Arabella is better for a first name.
