[Opinions] Eleonora
I heard this name on TV today in a documentary report about old vampire legends and I instantly liked it. Since this was on German TV, they pronounced it e-le-o-NO-rhah. WDYT? Do you like it? Hate it? Any combo suggestions? Would Nora be a good nickname?

I love it, but I probably wouldn't use it. I think Nora makes a great nickname.

Cool name, though of I were to use it I'd prn it el-eh-NOR-uh. Nora would be a pretty nn, though I like Elle or Ellie better.

It's nice, but I prefer Eleanor, or Eleonore (if French).

I love it and much prefer it to Eleanora. Nora is a cute nickname, but I'd prefer Ella or Elea.

Ella is a nice nickname and I prefer it over Elea because I'd like the NN to be only two syllables.

It's one of my favourite names, I'd use it on my own daughter. Nora's fine as a nn.

It's very pretty. I think it's pretty pronounced the way you heard it or the English way. If you live in an English speaking country people wouldn't say it the German way, unfortunately. PS-Why wouldn't you use the name Nina?

I live in Germany, so pronunciation would not be a problem.Concerning Nina: I just answered to your post ;)

I don't think Eleanor would cause many problems in Germany. Nonetheless, I prefer Eleonora. Maybe just because I am used to this variant...Anyway, I think it's nice. Classy.
Nora would definitely be a good nickname. Elea is not too bad either, IMO.
I think this name doesn't really need a nickname, though.

Well, you and mafiosa seem to agree that Eleanor wouldn't cause problems. Maybe you're right and I did not have enough faith in my fellow citizens ;) but just like you I still prefer Eleonora.

I like it even better than Eleanor (which I don't think would cause many problems in Germany, by the way) and love the nickname Nora, too. It's a great name overall.

I like it. I like Eleanor / Eleonor as well. I love the nicknames Nora or Nell :)

I prefer Nellie over Nell but thanks for the suggestion!

The only thing I don't like about Nellie is that it reminds me of two singers, one Nelly Furtado (she's good, i like her) and one, a rapper called just 'Nelly'. I like the sound but always think of one of them.

True. I did not consider this, thanks for the heads-up!

I love Eleanor, but I find Eleanora to be an unnecessary and frilly elaboration. I love the nn Nora for Eleanor, so of course it would work for Eleanora too.

Yes, I totally get the elaboration thing from your point of view but I think you can't name your child Eleanor in Germany because especially old people wouldn't know how to pronounce or spell it ;)

Well, thenIf that's the form of the name that would be used where you live (which I now know is Germany), then I guess that's the way it'd have to be and it wouldn't be an unnecessary elaboration then! :)
