I heard this name on TV today in a documentary report about old vampire legends and I instantly liked it. Since this was on German TV, they pronounced it e-le-o-NO-rhah. WDYT? Do you like it? Hate it? Any combo suggestions? Would Nora be a good nickname?

I love it, but I probably wouldn't use it. I think Nora makes a great nickname.

I love Eleonora, but I pronounce it the same as Eleanora. I think Nora is a nice nickname for it.

Cool name, though of I were to use it I'd prn it el-eh-NOR-uh. Nora would be a pretty nn, though I like Elle or Ellie better.

It's one of my favourite names, I'd use it on my own daughter. Nora's fine as a nn.

It's very pretty. I think it's pretty pronounced the way you heard it or the English way. If you live in an English speaking country people wouldn't say it the German way, unfortunately.

I live in Germany, so pronunciation would not be a problem.

I don't think Eleanor would cause many problems in Germany. Nonetheless, I prefer Eleonora. Maybe just because I am used to this variant...
Anyway, I think it's nice. Classy.
Nora would definitely be a good nickname. Elea is not too bad either, IMO.

Well, you and mafiosa seem to agree that Eleanor wouldn't cause problems. Maybe you're right and I did not have enough faith in my fellow citizens ;) but just like you I still prefer Eleonora.

I love Eleanor, but I find Eleanora to be an unnecessary and frilly elaboration. I love the nn Nora for Eleanor, so of course it would work for Eleanora too.

Yes, I totally get the elaboration thing from your point of view but I think you can't name your child Eleanor in Germany because especially old people wouldn't know how to pronounce or spell it ;)
