[Opinions] Ebony
I've always loved the name Ebony. The sound, and the meaning. But is it too established as a racial pride name, for me to use? Do you think it would raise eyebrows on a Caucasian child? And WDYTO the name in general?Combos I like are:Ebony Helena (heh-LAYN-uh)Ebony GwendolenEbony EstellaEbony FinnEbony EdithEbony LorettaEbony LaylaEbony Ophelia_____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

I think it's pretty. I've wondered the same thing. I guess it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I know a caucasian person with this name however she spelt it Ebanie, I definitely prefer Ebony and I think Ebony Helena is the best combo

I think it would suit anyone with ebony hair. Like Snow-White. It has an ethereal sound to me. A nickname could be Bonnie.
I like all of the names, but these sound the best; Ebony Helena, Ebony Gwendolen and Ebony Ophelia.

Well I think it is pretty. I met a african american guy named Ivory so I don't see why it matters as long as you like the name. I like Ebony Helena the best.

The only Ebony I know IS Caucasian! She's the sister of Amber and Louis, and I think the name suits her well.

I know a girl who is white and her name is Ebony and it really suits her. I like Ebony, I've never had a problem with who wears a name (if you know what I mean).I like Ebony Layla. :)I know more caucasions with the name Ebony.

I think that the name itself is very pretty, but agree with others who have said it is probably too racially connected for a caucasian child.
On a little side note, I was watching one of those baby birth shows the other night and an African American woman named Ebony, and her caucasian husband had a daughter- who they named Ivory. It made me chuckle just a little. :) ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It may be different where you live, but in the U.S. it would be quite odd to see the name on a Caucasian child. I don't care for it either way, though, sorry.~Heather~

I don't know anything about -racial- connotations but I think it would seem a bit odd on a blonde child. Same as with the name Scarlett to me.I love it :)Alice

All I can think of is that where I'm from, she'd get teasing like, "Is your middle name Ivory?"It's really too bad, because Ebony is quite pretty. I also rather like Ebon for a boy, but it sounds way too close to ebonics to use.Ebony Layla (though I'd spell it Ebony Leila) sounds really nice. I think that a two syllable middle name would work well. Ebony Helen, Ebony Jewel, and Ebony Maura also spring to mind. Maybe Ebony Harper or Ebony Orla? Array

Sings: "Ebony and ivory / live together in perfect harmony"Agree with the others about the politics of the name, but whenever I see it, this springs to my mind as well!

I agree with the others about the racial connection with Ebony.. I do however love all of your middle names!"Never make someone a priority, who only makes you an option."

I agree, this name has a strong racial connotation that needs to be seriously considered before you name your child.

I really like a lot of your middle name choices (Helena, Gwendolen, Estella, etc), but I do think that Ebony has a lot of political and racial overtones that you need to consider carefully before bestowing this name on a child...
