[Surname] Arany
Could someone tell me how to pronounce the Hungarian name Arany?
Replies
Since my knowledge of hungarian is limitated to pronounciation and some words. i could suggest that the result could be:
The two "a" without stress are pronounced "o" similar to the english word "cod". I am not sure but the "ny" should be like the italian "gn" in the word "agnello" or the spanish "n" with a "tilde".
So the the final word could be "orogn".

To be more precise in Italian a sound like the hungarian "ny" doesn't exist. In fact it existsin local languages: like "furlan language spoken in Udine region or it look similar to the sicilian "d" of the word "beddu" or "cavaddu". A palatal sound or a little bit dental like "th" in the english word that.
Agreed; pronunciation of the ny combination can be difficult for English speakers like me. Incidentally the meaning of the name is "gold".
