[Opinions] Willie (and Lolita)
Ok, so I love the name Will (just Will, mind you - from a story character when I was young) for a boy. But I know me, and I am forever making silly nicknames and such for people. Mias become Mimis, Jennifers become Junipers. It's a sickness I tell you.
Anyways, I like Will, but know with 101% certainty that I would inevitable call such a child Willie or Willy. Would this be an atrocious nickname?? I live in Canada, just fyi.
Also - what do you think of Lolita? Too scandalous to use?

You sound like my father. He makes up a nickname for everybody. :)
I don't think being called Willie/Willy on occasion is such a big deal. I don't care for the nickname, but it's not THAT bad. Nicknames are often silly or cute.
Lolita, in my opinion, is too sleazy to use on a child.

I like Will but wouldn't use Willy (see my reply to Murasaki). It would get a lot of silly comments here in Britain.
I like the sound of Lolita. I haven't read the book or seen the film but I know enough about it. I think if you were a celeb or moved in very liberal, arty circles you could maybe get away with it. I might feel differently having read it though.

Yeah, Willy's not used at all here as slang for penis (Dick is), but I wondered if the British use of it has become a universally known thing.
actually
I'm not English, but I have spent some time in the UK, and I get the impression"willie" is not as vulgar as dick, it's more the kind of word children might use?

Yes, it's what children say and what adults say when they are talking to a child. A bit like children say wee or pee instead of urine/urinate.
Not a name I'd consider using as it would provoke too many sniggers and daft comments from adults and children!

It's used in Australia, but we're a British convict colony. ;)
