[Opinions] Cressida
No, I don't want to use it but it's an unusual name that rarely seems to be discussed. A 20th century Brit politician I've been reading about, Hugh Gaitskell, had two daughters, Julia and Cressida.
Just wondered what you all think of the name?

I think it is pretty

I don't like it. It's got a cool history, but is really, really ugly sounding.

I don't dislike it, but I want to pronounce it "kreh-SEE-duh" rather than "KRESS-ih-duh" for some reason. I think the latter is prettier, though.

It sounds beautiful. But as a role model, the original Cressida (in Chaucer and Shakespeare) left a lot to be desired and has probably made it little-used down the centuries. But most folks nowadays would neither know nor care ... so that's not an issue. It also used to be the name of a car, a Toyota I think; not a very distinguished model!

Really pretty Now I am thinking about it again... lol

UglyAnd being side by side with the elegant and attractive Julia doesn't help its case. The "cress" sound is not at all appealing to me. It reminds me of names like Desdemona and Lucretia. They have some of the indicators of an attractive name but they still really miss the mark.

For some reason, this name makes me think of lettuce. I don't know why. Every time I see it, I can just about taste crispy, water-specked lettuce. And while I like lettuce okay, and it's not a terrible association, still, lettuce isn't what I want to think of when I hear a name.

Beautiful. It does deserve to be used more often. I could see it on a girl of any age. I imagine her with long hair tied up in a loose bun.

Sounds high-class. Nothing really wrong with it, but it's not my style.

I like!Though there is something about it that keeps me from marking it as a "gorgeous" name - it has a crunchiness to it, and reminds me of crisp lettuce for some reason (?? I know) - it is a very pretty name. It definitely strikes me a light green name, there is a freshness about it for sure.

Aaack! I PROMISE, I did NOT read your response before I posted mine! I really really wonder why the name reminds us both of lettuce?

Lol!No worries - great minds think alike! :)You know, I've been thinking about the whole lettuce thing, and I think it might be because of the "watercress" similarity. Not exactly lettuce, but close enough, with that "cress" in there...

I went to school with one, who was called Cressy. It makes me think of big glasses with blue frames, because that's what she wore! But it's quite a nice name.
