I think it is quite unusual - not "too much" but certainly an eye-catcher. I never realized it was a flower. I immediately associated it with the surname Forsyth - specifically with the novels of the Forsyte family. Which is pretty cool.
The only thing that gives me pause is what nicknames could be used (I come from a nicknamey family, so I always think of that!) - maybe Thia? My family never ever uses the last part of a name for a nickname though, so it might be unfortunately shortened to something like "Forsy".... which is far too lumpy to compliment the whole of Forsythia.
I like it though - it has that embellished lace-encrusted feel I sometimes like so well!
