[Opinions] Ellen (m)
in reply to a message by Lily
Ella is trendy and fluffy and sounds like a nickname, Ellen is friendly and comfortable and has been in use for 1000 years or so. As someone else said, I can see Helen making a comeback but not Ellen, though I think it will always be around in a quiet sort of way.
I don't like nns as full names at all, so I'd rank them Eleanor, Ellen, Elaine, Ella, Ellie, Elle (really dislike the last one). The Welsh version is Elen, which is pretty common in Wales, but I've seen Elin used too - like both of these. I have a German cousin called Hella which I also quite like, although I don't think it's very user-friendly outside Germany.
