[Opinions] Cynthia
What do you think of Cynthia? Dated or ready for a comeback? Do you know anyone named Cynthia? Do they go by Cindy?I thought of Cynthie as a nickname instead of Cindy.

I used to know a little girl (2 at the time, she'd be about 8 now) named Cynthia. She never went by Cindy or anything.

I have known countless Cynthias, because it is a very common name for my generation. Well, I should say that growing up I knew many Cindys, because no one -- really, absolutely no one -- was called Cynthia. It was only after many years that I knew anyone known as Cynthia.I have known a Cynthy, a Cyd and a Cyn. Actually, the Cyn might have been spelled Cin. I'm not sure.I doubt that Cynthia will be ready for a comeback soon.

I have a sort of aunt called Cynthia, aged 70-something. She's always been Cynthia, with the occasional 'Cynth' (but probably not to her face). I quite like it.

I'm pretty ambivalent about Cynthia. One the one hand it does have a lovely sound, but on the other, it does sound a little dated to me. I really dislike Cindy. I know 2 young (one in mid-20s and one in high school) Cynthias that go by Cindy, and I think it's a waste of a perfectly lovely name. Cynthie is nice, I guess.

I love it! I think it's ready for a comeback. It sounds so pretty. My combo is Cynthia Alice.

I like Cynthia a lot and its definitely underused. I like Forsythia even more though. I don't consider it dated, because it did not become popular enough to have a strong decade association. That said, the Cynthia I know is in her mid-fifties. She doesn't go by Cindy. I think Cynthie is a cute nickname. Cit (like Kit), Thia, and Tia could also work.

Really? It was number 7! Hmm I think it doesn't sound too dated because most Cynthias went by Cindy.

Wow, you're right, 1957. Hmm, I still don't think it seems dated though. I've never really known any Cindy's either. My first thought with the name is often the mouse Cynthia in Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH so that might be part of my 'young' visual. That might seem strange, but it had quite a few great names so the association stuck.
