mahat/mahA, cognate with English much, meant great, and mahitA meant greatness or an honoured female. I know the corresponding masculine as a personal name, and the feminine as a river name (and the neuter as the name of Shiva's trident), but haven't come across the feminine as a personal name. But, of course, my not having seen it indicates little.
