[Opinions] Elin
So with all the talk about Tiger Woods lately, the name of his wife, Elin, has been brought to my attention. WDYT? I actually really like it. I've been thinking about it a lot lately and how I could potentially use it one day. For those who don't know the name is pronounced EE-lin. However I have a major concern about people mispronouncing it and saying it the same way as Ellen. So what are your opinions on this name? Do you have any middle name ideas for it? Thanks in advance! :)Edit- EE-lin is the way I'd be pronouncing the name although it's not the correct pronunciation. Can anyone think of any other ways I could spell this name so that the prunciation EE-lin is more clear?Edit again- Okay, so I've been informed that maybe EE-lin can be the correct pronuciation? lol. Maybe you could also include in your response how YOU pronounce this name. This might be a difficult name to bear haha.

I love the clean look of Elin. I've always heard it pronounced "AY-lin" or "EH-lin" (similar to Ellen). A few weeks before the Tiger Woods thing I even considered starting a thread about it.But now with all the talk of Mr. w's wife and the "EE-lin" pronunciation, I've gone off the name. I can't take that pronunciation and that's the way everyone here in the U.S. will say it from now on. Grrrrr. My bottom line: Elin, "AY-lin," is lovely.

Well, since you plan on pronouncing it EE-lin, I wouldn't go with the Elin spelling. Most people in an English speaking country are going to see it as Ellen. Unfortunately, the only alternative I can think of is Eelin, which really doesn't look good. When I see the name, I pronounce it as Ellen.

Elin is quite popular in Wales - I know several of various ages, and it's no.77 in the Welsh 2008 charts. I like it, but I've only ever heard it pronounced EL-in. The other pronunciation is fine though and I don't think it would be too hard for people once explained, so I'd stick with the Elin spelling.

I hate the name. Boring to death! And all Elin's I've ever met has been blonde :P
I actually prn Elin like EE-lin and that's the only way I ever heard it pronounced.

I really dislike Elin and since Ellen is my all time favorite name I too have a major concern about people mispronouncing it or even thinking that Elin is just a different spelling of Ellen! :S
Elin is not pronounced like EE-lin (it's not the correct Scandinavian pronunciation anyway). The pronunciation is more like eh-LIN.Here's a soundfile I posted on the facts board: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=3272103&board=gen

I think the pronunciation of the name depends on where you live. I prn Elin more like EE-lin and that is the only way I've heard it pronounced. eh-LIN sounds more like Eline imo.

Okay this name could lead to more pronunciation issues than I thought haha. But I'm glad to know that it is often pronounced EE-lin.

Really?I've never heard any Swedish person pronounce it that way. I think it's very strange. Did you listen to the sound file or do you base it on the way I tried to describe the sound?
In my mind EE-lin would be like Ilin (long Swedish)

Yeah, I downloaded the sound file and you don't prn it the same way I do. I've never thougt of another pronunciation to Elin since I've only heard it pronounced EE-lin. Weird!
