It wouldn't surprise me if it were a name, but not one I could ever take seriously. Could you imagine if your boss was named Pookie? LOL

There was a children's picture book, about 1940s vintage I thnk, whose title and central character was Pookie; in this case, a rabbit with wings who was, of course, rejected by the other rabbits for being visibly different but who became, of course, heroically useful and airborne in some way I forget! Pretty watercolour pictures.

My father calls me Pookie.

It reminds me of "The Sterile Cuckoo", because Liza Minelli's character was named Pookie.

Pookie was the name of the main character of the novel and the movie "The Sterile Cuckoo." I seem to recall that it was a nickname, but I can't recall what her real name was. But then, maybe it wasn't a nickname. It's been a long long time since I've read that book.

Well, Pooky is Garfield's teddy bear :) And I have a friend with the nn Pooky.

I've only heard Pookie used as an affectionate nickname like Sweetie, Honey, etc.

I had a pet mouse named Pookie when I was a kid. I got it from Garfield... I think it was his teddy bear's name?
