[Opinions] Loretta
What do you think of Loretta? Do you think it could make a comeback? I think it's kind of cute and Jessica Parker just used it for her baby daughter (twin is Tabitha).
Do you know anyone with the name?

I knew a rather boring Loretta once; she'll be late 50s-early 60s now.
So I'm not sold on it, but it's fresher than all the spellings of Lauren. I far prefer Laura.

It's a nice name,and I went to school with a Loretta.
Where I live(French-speaking area), the name Laurette is used now and then. It's pretty, too.

I don't care for it, but know a little girl around my daughter's age named Loretta. She was named after her great grandmother.

To me it seems very country, much too country for me to use. I suppose this is because of Loretta Lynn. I'm not sure whether or not it would have the same image for me if she had never become a country music star.
My sister had a college friend named Loretta. She wasn't country at all, actually. She would be about forty-seven now.

I dislike it. BTW, Sarah Jessica Parker names her twins Marion & Tabitha...
Yeah, but Marion goes by her middle name which is Loretta
I love Loretta.
I know a fourth grade student by that name. She has an older sister named Gail. I personally love it and would use it.
I prefer Etta as in Etta James. Loretta Lynne isn't my cup-o-tea and Etta has better conotations for me. Plus, Etta is a fresher breathe of air amongst all the Emmas, Avas and Lilys.
It could make a comeback. I think it is cute and spunky. I wouldn't use it though. I know one or two older Lorettas.
I really like Marion Loretta.

My sister's middle name.
She doesn't like it very much, and I don't, either. It just doesn't sound too smart or pleasant to me. Though I do think it will have a comeback, being a celebrity baby name.

I don't like it, personally.
It may sound rather obscure, but it makes me think of The Life of Brian. If you've ever seen it, one of the members of the People's Front of Judea says he wants to be a woman and have babies, and insists everyone calls him Loretta. So in my head it sounds a bit ridiculous. It's a rather unusual name, and The Life of Brian is one of my favourite films, so that's the first thing I think of.

Me too.
I thought of that, too.
It's also the name of a character in the Beatles' "Get Back."
Sweet Loretta Modern
Thought she was a woman
But she was another man
All the girls around her
Said "she's got it coming"
But, she gets it while she can
So I just think of trans people when I hear it.

yeah...
very odd in that sense.
I think it's a very pretty name, though, very light and gentle. of course my MP/beatles associations are balanced by a lovely Townes Van Zandt song

the lyrics are really nice if you can resist going "ew it sounds like a countrry song" and turning it off
edit umm this isnt really that important but I'm familiar with the live version and it's way better and lovelier

Not obscure
It is my first thought therefore I find it very comical. Very bad of me but I couldn't take anyone called Loretta seriously, at least not without calling them Stan at some point. :)
I used to have a picture of Loretta/Stan as my sig years ago (eg http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=308990&board=ot).

It's a teensy bit obscure in the US
Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one!
