[Surname] Mothers maiden name
My mother's maiden name is DeGood, but was originally French, and I'm told from the BenNeLux area before that. I assume it was Francophiled, then Anglophiled, but have come to a dead end. Any idea how it may have been spelled in French or any languages from the Benelux area? Thanks!

Degood is either from Dutch or Flemish De Goed, De Goede or De Goedt. It simply means 'the good' (de goed). If your ancestor came from France, chances are that it would have been Flemish and that it would have been spelled De Goedt as you can see at http://tr.im/Q2rL
