I've really fallen in love with this name, it's so pretty. What do you think of Aisha?

Do you think it's alright to use it when you don't have the background or would it sound silly with an English surname?

I pronounce it ah-EE-sha, how do you pronounce it?

I have seen a lot of little Aisha's and Ayesha's and all have been with English surnames.

I don't like it. I personally pronounce it like eye + sha. It just seems I know like a false name. I can't explain it.

I know an English girl with this name. She pronounces it EYE-sha. Personnally I don't like the name.

I think it's pretty too. It seems to be quite a common name in the UK, with various spellings - I know an Ayse, an Ayshea and an Ayesha. I like both the eye-sha and ah-ee-sha pronunciations.

I haven't yet met one who wasn't Muslim / Turkish / of African background, but I don't see why it wouldn't work on a child from any background - it's pretty and easy to pronounce.

I like it - it has a nice sound to it, very soft, that I find very attractive. I don't think it would sound bad with an English surname, however, I think it might be jarring to some to see it on someone without a discernibly non-Caucasian background. I know the name itself is Arabic in origin, and I know that it's also popular in the black community in America. I'm not saying that it's right, but I do think that there will be some who will make judgments and assumptions based on the name.

I pronounce it Eye-ee-sha - and I think it's usable on anyone.
