[Opinions] Re: Karen, Kara or Karina? (more)
in reply to a message by Lily
Karen. I see it as Scandinavian rather than dated, and I enjoy its cool elegance.Kara does nothing for me. If it doesn't mean 'black' it's a spelling error, and fits in with other silly little names like Emma. I pronounce it KAH-ra, with a long A; definitely not Karra.Karina also looks like a mistake for Carina, which I slightly prefer though I wouldn't use either. The -a ending is needlessly fussy and frilly, and causes a long, whiney eee sound. For the record, I've known a spoilt and annoying Karen as well as a splendid Danish aunt; a giggly little boy-mad Cara; and a pleasant, very bright Carina who lives on the edge. So associations aren't a factor.
