Matilda, especially with the nn Tilly.

Hm... I like both meanings. I like the history of Matilda a little better, but both are good. So the only deciding factor is my superficial impression. I'd rather be Madeline. Sounds sharper somehow. Matilda is still a tiny tad staid, to me.
Madeline.
Madeleine.
I prefer Matilda.
Madeline.
Madeline!

I love Tilda and the French Mathilde, but I dislike Matilda.

And this is the only spelling I like of it.

Uh, DEFINITELY Madeline.
Matilda is too frumpy old-woman sounding and it seems as if people only like it every other decade or so. Madeline stands the test of time.

Matilda!
If you ask me, Madeline is kinda trendy and a ugly spelling of Madeleine. Matilda is lovely.

Madeline. Though it's not a real favorite, it's a lot better than Matilda, which is fugly.
That's a tough one, but I think Madeline has a slight edge. I like how soft and sophisticated Madeline is. Matilda still has a bit of a too-youthful edge for me... probably because of that movie.
Matilda, though I do like both.
Definitely Matilda
Since there are no spelling alterations, Matilda (I like Madeleine).
Definitely Madeline. I love it. I'm not really a fan of Matilda, but it has grown on me some.
