[Opinions] Ambler
Ambler is a family name that has been used off and on for many generations in our family, typically as a middle name for men. What is your opinion of it as a first name? Do you prefer it for a male or female? Is it too similar to Amber?

There's also an area near Philadelphia called Ambler. I go to school nearby, so it reminds me of that. I don't really care for it as a name.
Honestly, I don't like it at all. It sounds odd.
To me, it's almost too close to amble/ambling/ambler/etc. that it immediately draws to mind a sort of slow, plodding person. Amber isn't really my first association at all.
However, I do like the sound and the family meaning, and I think its rather gender neutral. Personally, I'd prefer it in the middle name slot for either gender, but I think it could be used as a first name on a boy.

To me it sounds male and I can't see it used on a girl. Given the amount of "interesting" names out there I think you could get away with using it as a fn as well, but me personally I wouldn't. I'd keep it in the mn spot.
I don't like it at all as a fn, I'd just keep it as a mn for men. It reminds me of a noun for "to amble" and, in site of the closeness to Amber, I don't find it suitabe for a girl.
I thought of the word "amble" too, and I agree that it's too close to Amber. People would probably get confused and call her Amber pretty often.
