B-b-but Jonquil is a girl's name.
When I saw the title of your thread I immediately thought of Jonquil Emilia. I don't have the heart to try male combos.
Jonquil is difficult enough for a girl to pull off. Her ds will not thank her. At least he can go by the obvious nn Jon.

I didn't have the heart either. Hence this post! But perhaps you could think of names to go with Jon?

Hmmm. Has she considered Jolyon, nn Jon? That's a character's name and nn in "The Forsyte Saga." The cast pronounce Jolyon with a long "o" sound, but the nn is definitely short, as in Jon / John.
In an attempt to distract her with shiny objects, how about suggesting these instead of Jonquil:
Justus, Carsten, Kendall, Quentin, Cavan (short "a" as in Gavin), Gavin, Garvan, Tarquin, Torquil, Redmond, Tighe, Ronan, Rowan (another plant name), Heath, Rainer, Stellan, Kester, Dashiell.
